The short answer
For WooCommerce stores, Rank Math Free is the stronger choice in 2025. It provides full Product schema markup, multiple focus keywords, a built-in Google Search Console analytics integration, and superior WooCommerce-specific controls — all in the free version. To match these features in Yoast, you need both Yoast Premium and the Yoast WooCommerce SEO addon, which together cost significantly more.
That said, Yoast remains an excellent plugin with a longer track record, a more beginner-friendly interface, and a reputation for stability. If your team is already trained on Yoast and you are running Yoast Premium with the WooCommerce addon, switching to Rank Math is not an urgent priority. But for stores starting fresh or on a budget, Rank Math Free is the clear recommendation.
Feature comparison: what matters for WooCommerce
Product schema is the most important WooCommerce-specific feature. Rank Math Free generates full Product schema including price, availability, brand, GTIN, and aggregateRating (reviews) automatically from WooCommerce data when the WooCommerce module is enabled. Yoast Free generates minimal product markup; full Product schema requires the paid WooCommerce SEO addon.
Breadcrumb schema: both plugins handle breadcrumbs, but Rank Math's WooCommerce module generates more accurate breadcrumb paths for product pages in complex category structures. Yoast's breadcrumbs are simpler but reliable.
Tag page management: both allow you to noindex tag archives, but Rank Math's interface makes this more explicit and harder to accidentally skip. WooCommerce tag archives are a common source of thin content — see our tag pages tip.
Faceted navigation: Rank Math automatically adds canonical tags to most filtered URLs. Yoast does not handle this natively — it requires a third-party plugin or manual configuration.
Multiple focus keywords: Rank Math Free allows up to five focus keywords per page. Yoast Free allows only one; multiple keywords require Yoast Premium. For WooCommerce category pages that target keyword clusters rather than single terms, this is a meaningful difference.
Analytics and Search Console integration
Rank Math includes an Analytics module that integrates Google Search Console data directly into the WordPress dashboard. You can see keyword rankings, impressions, clicks, and CTR for individual pages without leaving WordPress. This is a significant convenience advantage for store owners who want to monitor SEO performance without switching between tools.
Yoast SEO does not include native Search Console integration in any tier. You need to connect Search Console separately through Google's Search Console interface or use a separate analytics plugin. For store owners who primarily work within WordPress, this is a meaningful friction point.
Interface and ease of use
Yoast has a clear interface advantage for beginners. Its 'traffic light' scoring system — green for good, orange for improvement needed, red for critical issues — is immediately intuitive. The readability analysis is thorough and well-explained. For store owners who are new to SEO and want guidance rather than controls, Yoast's UX is gentler.
Rank Math has more settings and more power, which can be overwhelming for beginners. However, its setup wizard is thorough and well-designed, and once configured, the day-to-day interface for editing individual pages is clean and fast. For experienced SEOs or stores with an in-house SEO resource, Rank Math's additional controls are an advantage rather than a burden.
Migrating from Yoast to Rank Math
If you decide to switch, Rank Math includes a built-in migration tool that imports all existing Yoast settings, redirects, focus keywords, and per-post meta data. The migration typically takes less than five minutes and is highly reliable — we have not encountered data loss issues in migrations we have managed.
After migration: verify that title tags, meta descriptions, and canonical URLs are correctly applied across your key page types by running a Screaming Frog crawl. Check that product schema is being generated correctly on product pages using Google's Rich Results Test. Confirm that tag archive pages are set to noindex, and that your sitemap is correct and submitted in Search Console.
Do not switch plugins immediately before a major sale event or seasonal peak. Allow at least two to four weeks of observation after migration before drawing conclusions about any ranking changes. Some fluctuation is normal during the transition period.
Our recommendation
Start with Rank Math if: you are setting up a new WooCommerce store; you are currently on Yoast Free and find its WooCommerce features limiting; you want full Product schema without paying for add-ons; or you want Search Console data inside WordPress.
Stay with Yoast if: you are on Yoast Premium with the WooCommerce addon and things are working well; your team is trained on Yoast's interface and switching has a real cost; or you value stability and a longer track record above feature completeness.
Whichever plugin you choose, the most important thing is configuring it correctly for WooCommerce — enabling the relevant modules, setting title templates, noindexing tag archives, and connecting Search Console. A perfectly configured Yoast installation beats a poorly configured Rank Math setup every time. See our detailed configuration guides: Rank Math setup and Yoast for WooCommerce.
